The organisation into pastoral areas a key element in dealing with inevitable changes brought about by decreasing numbers of clergy available, and also a decline in the numbers attending mass. As such, it is an important aspect of the archdiocese's Leaving Safe Harbours initiative.
The parish representatives on the Pastoral Area Working Group (PAWG) are Carole Firth, Denise Fletcher and Richard Grainger.
Following recent consultation with parishioners, the following four areas of nine proposed received strong support for inclusion in Year 1 of the PAWG's discussion programme:
- Provision of Mass and the Sacraments
- Evangelisation and Mission
- Networking with other agencies.
- Pastoral Care
The PAWG will select, at the Group Meeting on May 17th 2009, three areas from the nine available to consider in detail over the next twelve months. The result of the consultation at St.Lewis's Parish will be shared with the members of the PAWG.
