The Ministry of Reader compliments and is as important as the Ministry of the Eucharist. Readers proclaim the Word of God at Mass and on other occasions. And like Eucharistic Ministers they ought to renew their commitment each year, usually on "Communications Sunday" (This year Sunday May 24th). Two readers are required for each Mass on Sundays. Depending on the number of volunteers on the rota, each person reads at approximately 6 to 8 week intervals. There are also extra readings at Christmas midnight Mass and during Holy Week and there are regular weekday readers for both Masses and Eucharistic Services.

Young Readers are included in this Ministry. Young parishioners can join the team after they have made their First Holy Communion. There is a rota which includes students from 8 years plus. If you join the rota, you will read at 11.00 Sunday Mass. The young readers read about every 8 weeks. The bidding prayers are simplified for these Sundays, but the readings are usually taken from the Parish Mass book.
