The Parish Discussion Group (PDG) began life as the RCIA Group nearly twenty years ago during Mgr Doran’s time. Although the group is still available to help adult candidates for reception into the Church, the main focus has been on study and discussion. The subjects covered over this time include scripture based study of the gospels of Mark Luke and John, the Acts of the Apostles and Romans. Church Documents including The Common Good, One Bread One Body, Cherishing Life and The Mass. They have also looked at modern writers such as Adrian Smith’s “Tomorrows Christian” and are currently studying “What’s the Point of Being a Christian” by Timothy Radcliffe.

They meet approximately once a month at each other’s houses, and although they do not always agree with one another about everything the discussions are lively, humorous and very enjoyable. Over the years as their knowledge has grown, their faith has also grown and matured and after twenty years is almost unrecognisable from when they first started. As part of the group they also attend retreats and study days including those run by the Ireneaus Project, which recently hosted talks by Jean Vanier (founder of the L’Arche Community) and author and Retreat Director Daniel O’Leary. Also they usually have a Passover Meal during Holy Week.
